Thoroughly stable rasters in only 128 bytes !
At the beginning of 1988, SYNC released a screen meant to showcase flicker-free rasters, named SYNC.PRG.
Here is my fullscreen tribute (working on Atari STF/STE), as a contribution to the Silly Venture 2k16 demoparty that took place in Gdansk (Poland) on November 12th 2016.
It won the Atari ST 128-byte intro competition of SillyVenture 2016, held in Gdańsk from November 11th to 13th 2016, as its only entry.
The rasters are “thoroughly stable” because the program locks onto the electron beam. It waits for the first line interrupt with a STOP instruction, then disables all interrupts and runs a loop that takes exactly the time of one scanline (128 NOP instructions), changing the background colour on every line of the frame. As the background colour also fills the borders, the rasters cover the whole screen: the same idea as Level 16’s Full Screen Demo in 1988.
